Sunday : Visite de Dungarvan et Youghal

My English is better tham the first day but I have still some work. I began the morning by a good lazy morning and after the breakfast. I did Two hours of canot. And, Sunday Afternoon, I visited Two towns, Dungavan and Youghal.

It was in 1954 that John Huston chose Youghal for the location of New Bedford for the movie “Moby Dick”. The making of this movie brought such stars as Gregory Peck, Richard Basehart and Leo Genn to Youghal. During the months and weeks of building and filming, Youghal was a hive of activity and excitement with people visiting from all over Ireland and England.

Un joli parc prés du port, on ne se croirait pas en Irlande avec ses palmiers.

En effet, pas grand monde dans l'eau... Bizard non ???  Une des plus longues plages désertes du pays.... Personne ne fait bronzette.

L'inhabituel bâtiment de quatre étages qui enjambe Main Street fut construit en 1777 par le conseil municipal pour remplacer la porte de Fer. La nouvelle tour servit de prison municipale jusqu'en 1837. L'état d'insurrection était tel, à la fin du 18^e s., que la prison fut bientôt surpeuplée. Les rebelles étaient pendus aux fenêtres, à titre d'exemple pour le reste de la population.
